President Hu Jintao has held talks with Hifikepunye Pohamba, his counterpart from the Republic of Namibia in Beijing. Pohamba is in China for a five-day state visit.
Hu hosted a red carpet ceremony to welcome the visiting president at the Great Hall of the People Monday afternoon. Following the ceremony, the two leaders sat down for talks.
Hu Jintao said Sino-Namibian relations have stood the test of time. He said relations have developed quickly but smoothly in the past 15 years, when the two countries formally established diplomatic ties.
Pohamba expressed his gratitude towards the Chinese government and people for their support and assistance to his country. He hopes the two nations will further promote all-round cooperation, which is in the interests of the two peoples.
Hu added that bilateral relations have entered a new stage of growth. He suggested the two countries further enhance their friendship and political exchanges, and expand cooperation in areas such as trade, agriculture, fisheries, communication and infrastructure.
The Chinese President also thanked Namibia for its One China policy, which Pohamba said his government would adhere to.
After the talks, the two heads of state witnessed the signing of a series of cooperation agreements.
